Derogatory Words

I find the word Obamacare to be a very offensive, derogatory word. The fact is, we need a reform of our health system in America. If you ask me, what they've been able to pass, only scratches the surface. There's a long road to this reform. It should be referred to as what it is and not given a derogatory undertone simply because of who got the ball rolling. It is, health care reform.

As a small business owner I fall into that group of people that find themselves uninsured. To afford even the smallest health insurance policy would put me out of business. I've said for years that the cost is way too high for any kind of coverage. I've found in the rare cases that I've needed any kind of attention, the doctors typically will have some sort of discounted rate for people that can't afford it. Even then, a toothache almost left me bankrupt. Over the years, I've come to accept the fact that if anything major should arise, it would probably mean the death of me, at which point I hope I'd at least get a discount in death.

I couldn't agree more with what this young man is saying in this video...

Refreshing to hear somebody talk sense for once. So many naysayers and fearmongering out there, but no alternative solutions offered. It's obvious that the system we've had for years doesn't work, so why not embrace something that is trying to find a better way? It's 2014 for God's sake. We may have the best technology and health care facilities in the world, but we have the worst excuse for technical infrastructure connecting it all. Nobody in this country should have to decide between going to the doctor or sitting at home to suffer due to cost. It's shameful. I see too many of my friends, mainly middle class and well educated, who cannot afford basic healthcare.

It's a start Stew. But has a long way to go. Must be very frustrating and scary to have no insurance at all. If enough people felt and voted as you do, there would be reform. But until then.....
I don't mean this to be a glib statement but you can always move to Canada! Not perfect by any means but EVERYONE got the same basic coverage....rich and poor alike, paid for by our taxes. Not bad I think.

The fact that there are still those who think our healthcare system is just great makes the problem even worse! The current coverage changes are just the tip of the iceberg compared to what needs to be done. It is an embarrassment that our country ranks below even some third world countries in infant mortality and longevity and other areas.

I can't imagine what I'd have done in recent years without our National Health Service. I'd be dead, I guess. And the surgery I needed as a kid would have bankrupted my parents.

Don't think I haven't given thought to swimming across the river, Jim. I'm hoping that my health will compare to my father's and not require much maintenance. But one never knows what the future holds.

Sadly, that is my life. You constantly hope that everything will be alright.

I know too many people that don't understand what it is like to not have the needed help. And I also know too many that are worse off than myself.
It is sometimes embarrassing to be American. Often when I travel, I claim to be Canadian.

No worries Rich, we know who you are.
I know Shelly still works there. But it always bothered me working for a company that was part of the problem instead of the solution. But it's nice to know that the kindergartner has coverage.
