Sports Funerals

In our business, we constantly get  request of all sorts.
We see these sorts of request as commonplace almost.
But evidently others think it is rare. ....

I remember the one in the recliner. It was all over the internet.

As long as they don't want the funeral at home, we can do just about anything.

We'll personalize your memorial any way you like.
After all, it was a life well spent and we want to celebrate it too.

Fascinating film. There's a lot of stuff there that wouldn't be allowed here. The headstones (monuments) wouldn't happen. There are really strict rules about what you can put on them.

I'm not sure about the recliner. I think you used to have to be closed in (to prevent the spread of disease) but these days they have 'green' funerals with wicker coffins so maybe the rules are different.

"They don't bury people in shoes." Is that right? I'm sure they do here.

Your work is fascinating - and I don't think people talk about it enough. I've left instructions that I'm to be cremated and have my ashes scattered into the sea. Maybe some people would think that was weird too.

now those are die-hard sports fans (no pun intended!)
but, that's how it should be...as you say...a celebration of the person's life!

so, what about the guy in the recliner? i never heard of that one! they must have needed a humongous coffin to bury him in his recliner (just kidding...i think!) =)

The older I get, the more I think, "whatever floats your boat". It's nice to have a plan and then have Family fulfilling your wishes like that.

There are some cemeteries that dictate what kind of monument you can have and others where it's open to your imagination. One that I frequently go to, if you stand at the chapel and look one way, you see the older more stately monuments. Then turn and look the other way, you'll see more modern regulated headstones.
As for shoes being worn, it is really up to the director and the family. I for one want to go into the fire barefoot.

It's great when a service reflects the person's life and not some cookie cutter version out of a book. It makes our job much more interesting. You only get to die once, better get it right.
I believe the man in the recliner was cremated after the service, but I could be wrong. Most importantly, the viewing and service reflected his life.

No body likes to think about it much. But really, if someone is planning your funeral for you, all they need to do is think about your life and it should come naturally.

I have mixed feelings about the guy in the recliner. If it was his idea, it's great, but it would give me pause to attend a funeral with the deceased in full view like that!

It would be a little startling when you walked in, wouldn't it.

I am so used to the traditional funeral that it would be great to attend one that really reflected the life of an imaginative person. Stew, I bet you have seen it all!!
Ron has my plans and I have his. It's important to have 'that talk' sooner than later.

I hope those plans reflect your amazing personalities

I can't begin to imagine some of the things you've been asked to do. We buried my mother-in-law with her bowling ball and roller skates (probably should have enclosed her bowling shoes, too).

I heard yesterday of an avid bowler that had a bowling ball hollowed out so it could contain is ashes after he was gone.
