Sky Burials

High in the mountains of Tibet, where no trees grow and my beautiful dog's ancestors come from, there is a ritual unlike anything we have in the United States.
Take a look at this video and see what you think about this unique way of moving on from this earth.
I would love to read your thoughts.

Well I don't see that it's any worse than donating your body to science. I carry a donor card that says they can have any part of my body that might be useful. Then my instructions are to burn the 'leftovers'. Just because it's vultures finding the body 'useful' doesn't make it that different for me.
It's interesting that they have to have a non-Buddhist do it though.

this tibetan/buddhist sky burial seems like the best and most natural way for the deceased's body to be given back to the earth.
i just finished reading a book about an expedition to the summit of mount everest, and the buddhist sherpas that help in the expeditions that tragically die during the ascent or descent...are honored & their bodies become a part of the frozen land...sometimes left in a crevasse. there are stone monuments along the trails to the summit, honoring those that passed on.
it's all so interesting.
thanks for sharing this stew.
(OH, and the vultures in this video are so much nicer looking than the black turkey vultures we have here!)

I have always thought that if I were to choose a religion I would choose Buddhist. But since they cannot drink that would definitely not be the religion for me. I could see why the man who performed the sky burriel would need whiskey. All kidding aside, I think this is a stunningly beautiful practice.
